HEMA FENCING MASK OVERLAY

What is a fencing mask and why should it be protected?

The mask is essential protective equipment for the head and face when practising this sport. Whether you practise foil, épée or sabre fencing, this piece of equipment is subject to repeated impacts that can reduce its lifespan.Masks meet standardised resistance levels: 350N for standard practice and 1600N for more intensive disciplines. These levels guarantee the safety of fencers in accordance with current standards.

Additional protection via complementary equipment such as mask covers helps to preserve your main mask. These solutions are suitable for many disciplines: traditional fencing, HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts), medieval fencing, stick fighting, Kalis Eskrima, lightsaber fencing, combat fencing and Tolpar short fencing.

The different types of fencing mask covers

Three main models of mask covers are available to protect your equipment.

The simple model offers basic protection and fits 350N and 1600N masks. It is ideal for regular foil and épée training. The full model covers a larger area and provides enhanced protection for the entire 350N mask. The shell model, made of hard plastic, is a rigid helmet cover. This shell protection offers increased impact resistance. Each type meets specific needs depending on the intensity of your practice and the level of protection required.

Occipital and neck protection: essential accessories

The neck and back of the head are particularly vulnerable areas during practice. The bib already provides basic protection, but additional equipment further enhances safety.

The occipital plate specifically targets this sensitive area. It absorbs rear and side impacts with optimal resistance. We have two models of occipital plates, one with a red band and the other black.Choosing the right size ensures optimal comfort during your bouts. Soft neck protectors, combined with the bib, are an interesting alternative for covering this exposed area.

The mask cover for fencing masters: specific protection

Fencing masters in France have special protection needs. Repeated demonstrations with foils and sabres, prolonged exposure to impacts and preparing their students for competitions require more resistant equipment. The fencing master's mask cover meets these professional requirements. Its reinforced design ensures superior durability in the face of intensive daily use.

The advantages of the fencing mask cover

The use of a mask cover has many practical benefits.Shock absorption effectively protects your 350N or 1600N mask from direct impacts. Occipital and lateral protection is reinforced, offering high safety in the most exposed areas. 1600N foil and épée masks particularly benefit from this additional protection. The bib integrated into some models improves overall coverage. This equipment complies with standards and significantly increases the lifespan of your main mask.

You can practise in complete safety while making long-term savings. The 350N or 1600N mask remains protected and retains its protective properties for longer.

How to choose your fencing mask protection?

Several criteria will guide your selection. The discipline practised influences the choice: foil and épée require protection adapted to their specificities. The intensity of your training or combat determines the level of reinforcement required. The type of 350N mask you own determines the compatibility of the equipment. The areas to be protected as a priority vary depending on your practice. Some practitioners prefer protection focused on the occipital area, while others prefer overall coverage. The colour and size should match your preferences and body type. Users of electric masks with metal wire, particularly in France, should check the compatibility of the protection with this system.
