The Red Dragon HEMA Sparring Messer is based on the formidable Germanic cutlass weapon of the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. The Messer was a term for the class of single-edged bladed weapons, deriving from the medieval falchion and preceding the modern sabre. It was part of the curriculum of several fencing manuals in the 14th and 15th centuries, including Codex Wallerstein.

The interchangeable guard has a nagel and can be easily changed for right or left handed fencers. With the addition of an extended pommel, this item can be converted into a Langes Messer.

The Red Dragon HEMA Synthetic Sparring Messer is designed for the rigors of the HEMA room and is virtually unbreakable. We are back to the pleasure of quickly mounting one's weapon for training in the fencing room. Superb realization.
